odd dreams: surreal heartbeat

i rarely dream, and when i do - it's surreal. take for example my last dream.
i'm doing something around the house, it's night time outside and all the lights in the house are on. suddenly [a particular friend] bursts through the door with a dead dog. he's running from the police for killing this dog. i try some magical things and try to bring the dog back alive, and the one i remember is me entering inside the dog using my mind. during this part of my dream, i heard a heartbeat, a really loud one, and it got slower and slower. i got out of this trance as the police, driving a brand new volvo estate ram the door down. thinking quickly i shove [a particular friend] and the dog somewhere and argh.
woken up seconds before my alarm again.
i wish i would dream more often. i can understand why i was dreaming last night, i was very worried after working really hard for an examination yesterday, which i was pleased with my efforts; but i neglected to revise for the exam i had today - i was far too tired last night and for some reason avoided caffeine.
could someone explain the dream i had? i can understand part of it, given that [a particular friend] used to have a dog, and i liked it, then one day it was gone. i won't divulge any details about that because it will probably put salt in one of [a particular friend]'s wounds.

i wonder if this dream will be part of a series like my previous dreams. (the last time i can remember having a dream is sometime back in october.) hopefully it doesn't turn into a nightmare, because it seems to be going that way.

everytime i think of that heartbeat sound, i shudder and start to think i'm dying. argh, bring the men in white coats now, while i'm still willing to go...
